M-Sport is delighted at the FIA's recent announcement to appoint the Cumbrian-based company in the role of promoter for the 2012 edition of the FIA WRC Academy. In a coherent approach to the new season, M-Sport will continue to offer dedicated technical support for the series whilst working alongside motorsport's governing body to co-ordinate and promote the one-make series. With the deadline for entries in just three weeks time, M-Sport has confirmed that there will be 18 places available for the 2012 season.

Peter Rolfsen and co-driver Anders Kjær took the class victory on the opening round of the Norwegian Championship at the Mountain Rally in Gol last week.
In a class that seems to be even more competitive than it was in 2011, and with limited preparation before the event, the PRMotorsport team secured victory with an almost flawless rally.

The 2011 FST International Shootout winner, Steve Røkland, finished just 0.3 seconds off the podium at the Mountain Rally in Norway last weekend as the youngster tackled his first round of the season in his M-Sport prepared Ford Fiesta R2.

Designed and built at M-Sport to FIA R1 regulations and aimed at those just starting out on their rallying career, the Ford Fiesta R1 forms the first step on the Ford’s ‘Ladder of Opportunity’ which allows competitors to graduate, with Ford, from national level right through to the WRC.
Reverse engineered from the Ford Fiesta R2 which has now sold in more than 27 countries around the world and forms the backbone of the FIA WRC Academy, the R1 is designed to use the majority of parts from the R2, allowing competitors to start in the R1 before updating their cars to MS1 and then R2 specification as experience and budget allows.
The Ford Fiesta MS1 has recently completed a comprehensive testing schedule of hundreds of KMs including tarmac, gravel at Greystoke Forest and finally as Course Car for the Grizedale Stages in the capable hands of 2011 Fiesta SportTrophy apprentice, Stephen Barker from New Zealand.
Work has now been completed on the first Ford Fiesta R1 to be built at M-Sport which will allow the engineering team to complete the comprehensive build manual in the New Year ahead of the FIA technical inspection planned for January 2012.

Last weekend saw the successful debut of the all-new Ford Fiesta MS1 as, piloted by the 2010 FST International Shootout winner Stephen Barker, Ford and M-Sport's latest global rally car assumed the role of Course Car on the Coppermines Grizedale Stages Rally in South Cumbria.
